took my 6 yo daughter to the park. Had a big bowie knife on my belt, my metal detector over my shoulder, and went into the woods. I guess someone thought it was a shovel and called the police. They said a man took a small girl into the woods and he had a knife and shovel. WTF!

Cops came into the woods with dogs, found me and my daughter digging a small hole.

They were actually very nice and told me to have a nice day.

That's to bad but in the times we live better safe then sorry  I might have called the cops myself are at least followed you and checked what was going on. Now your daughter has a story she will tell for years to come and someday you might laugh at it

the story will be told by us parents.  She was more interested in the dogs, and really didn't seem to understand what was up.  She won't remember it the way me and my wife will.  But, it will be a great story to remember over the years.

Hi Snizzard
                      Thats one reason I never carry a knife when I go detecting .  Its against the law to carry a knife in public , its considered a conceilable weapon over here .  Might get away with camping or fishing or maybe out in the bush away from residential areas. Even aware to carry my small pick around parks prefere to use a small trowel or garden shovel . and I dont go detecting in school grounds could be had-up for treaspassing. Cool

When it comes to kids I guess better safe than sorry.  Pretty sad though that a father can not walk around with his daughter without people freaking out on you. This is why I say child abusers should be forgiven and then hung. Keeps em thinned out that way. Smiley

I've got to agree with the perspectives of Snizzard and Oro. Better to verify and assure the safety of our children. Also, a #&%$### convicted of anything like that should be vaporized.
