His detector was  HUGE, it hung on a harness on his chest, seemed like it was about
8" x 10" and mebbe 2" thick, with bunch of knobs, was black, many years later he became a Whites dealer in Arizona, so It may have been a Whites , if they were in business at that time, all I can remember is he found much gold in Az with it, and many Silver coins in Indiana, he was my hero=Big Bro= Smiley

I'm surprised he didn't do the big brother thing, and force you to go along and pack the big thing for him while he swung the rod! lol

30 years of surface collecting and an interest in electronics. I built my first detector just for a project. I've still got it.

After my aunt gave me some old Sweden coins.  Coin collecting got me started, or at least was part of it.  The other part was my father whom bought me a detector for the heck of it.  Had this detector for at least four years now.  Love it to bits!!

An old woman in the neighborhood I grew up that shared stories of her adventures collecting rocks from all over the world, My third grade teacher and his amazing story of being in Africa and finding a native who was trapped under a fallen tree and was given a shrunken head for saving the man, Indiana Jones, and a fascination with pirates.

Go Up Go Down

Hi, Found a copy of treasure found magazine. Tore a Whites Detector ad off the back page that had a dealers address. Drove 70 mi. to his house and bought a $150.00 machine (1971). Second time out Civil War relic hunting the first hole I dug was a US waist belt plate. Been digging ever since! I remember when I dug it I thought to myself "This is easy!"
Took me 5 years before I found another one.(LOL) Best damn hobby I ever had...be careful though, it is VERY addicting.

Go Up Go Down

At the age of eight, my mother got me collecting pennies in a collector book.  Then I would read about detectors for sale in the back of comic books and all the treasure you will find.  I still collect coins today but it wasn't until my oldest son at 12 yrs old asked for a metal detector for his birthday that I got my hands on one (Fishers 1225x I believe).  I ended up enjoying it more than he did and bought me one.  That was 24 yrs ago.  I love this hobby.

Go Up Go Down

I still remember watching Indiana Jones in the theatre when he was running with the gold head and the rocks were coming after him. It was great when he shot the the guy that came at him with the sword. Everyone in the movie theatre stood up and clapped and cheered it was one of those moments you never forget.
