Hi, my opinion is the XP adx150 is the better machine, but it depends on if you want an lcd display - which the Ace 250 has and the XP adx150 does not.

Also where are you hoping to use the detector, beach or land?, they are both good land detectors and good for dry beach sand, NOT at all good in WET beach sand though.

If it is your first machine, either will get you started, both are good machines for land searching, you could buy a lot worse!, again it just depends on if you want an lcd display or not, but if you can afford it I would get the Xp adx150 as it is way better made, from a very good brand, and simple to learn as it only has 2 knobs to adjust and it can even be hip mounted, and also isn't bright yellow like the Garrett Ace!!!, plus it has many more features.

Yeh so definitely I would get the XP adx150. Nothing seriously wrong with the Ace250 but the XP adx150 looks to me to be the more professional machine.

I haven't used either machine, but from what I have read and also going by the brand/looks, I would go for the adx150 anyday.

thanks mark ithink i will go with the adx ive used the ace before and even with the screen telling you what it is and how deep you still have to decide weather to dig it or not and most of the time the screen didnt seem to be right anyway so i think getting rid of the screen might make me dig more targets and = more finds.

Hi, I'm surprised you haven't had more replies yet, I know these are both popular machines so maybe someone who has had some experience of using them could post some thoughts or advice too.

Good luck.

The problem Mark is more details are needed before anyone can make a educated recommendation on which machine is best for bryan. Both are very good detectors but the Ace will be a better machine at the beach where the XP is a much better relic detector. If we knew where and what kind of hunting bryan was going to use it  for we could answer the question plus add other detectors that might be a better machine for the job.

Bryan look at the Tesoro Silver Sabre. I test it last year and found for the investment to be a great machine. The only place I found it to have a big learning curve was in wet sand.

No more kHz does not mean better. Tesoro make great detectors, but I have no idea how much they are worth second hand. I've put a link below and it has some really great information on the basics of metal detectors, I was actually reading it myself this morning - being new to this hobby myself I'm also still learning.

What is the best frequency for my type of hunting?
Contrary to popular belief, there is no one best frequency for any specific metal or metals. Any VLF-style detector that is operating between 3 and 30 kHz will do a fine job for any type of hunting that is done. This frequency range gives good depth, target separation, and is not overly affected by ground mineralization.
The ability to pick up good targets and separate trash from goodies is more due to the design of the detector, type of coils used, and several other engineering points that are brought up during the R&D phase. Comparing feature points of the detector model to the type of hunting you are planning to use it for will help you more than just comparing frequencies.

If you want depth then keep the Khz under 15 - 20 Khz and Seldom is right the Tesoro is far better suited to UK conditions or if you want to take a look at the Lazer branded Tesoros
these machines have found more Hammerd silver and Gold in the UK than anyother Brand,
and lets face it thats the stuff we all like digging

hope this helps

The best frequencies for the UK are between 5khz and 15khz and the highest you would ever want to go is around 18khz but with the higher khz range you will lose silver at depth,
myself I would keep between 5 - 15khz
