I was told that my White is far superior than the Bounty Hunter ! I found some nice things with my Bounty Hunter . Why would anyone call it a toy ? What are the differenses between the 2 ?

To even begin to answer the question, we'd need to know WHICH Bounty Hunter you are comparing the MXT to.  (And no,  Bounty Hunters are NOT toys, but the line has had reliablility/quality control issues over the years--whether it still does or not is another story, since both the Teknetics and the Fishers manufactured by the same company have very good reputations.)

Having used and owned BOTH, I would say for cache hunting that the MXT with a 12" or 300 coil would beat most if not all BH hands down...
However the  Bounty Hunter 505 is not to be counted out. and as BBA 7377 said, it depends....WHICH BH you mean...

Honestly?
I would recommend a good two box for anything at more than 20" or so...

But on topic...... the MXT in "relic" mode, jacked up sens til it is ALMOST "chattery", and then back down a bit, should get you to that deep, and will beat pretty much anything Bounty Hunter can produce.

Hello Cali,

you would need to be more specific as both manufacturers have a large line of detectors each. So one has to compare the models. Of course Whites Top Notch V3 machine will give you more bang at USD 1500 than Bounty Hunter priced at USD 150. In general the Bounty Hunter line is for beginners. Bounty Hunter also owns Fisher Labs which has more expensive and advantaged machines. Whites has machines ranging roughly from USD 250 - 1500.00.

The Bounty Hunter is a good starter and if you enjoy the hobby you may want to upgrade to a more powerfull machine later on.

Regards,

Christian

Christian makes good points..
And keep in mid that it is VERY difficult to get a TRUE unbiased opinion on ANY detector.
You CAN compare features:

(I used BH's top of the line for lack of info)
But in the end it is up to YOU, and what you feel is right based on common sense.
Bounty Hunters HAVE has QC and other issues, and hopefully the merger will change this, so don't count them out. They have gotten MANY people into the hobby.

IMHO often the experience of the operator and his familiarity of his detector can mean more than what brand you have or how much you spent for it.  There is a lot of truth to "you get what you pay for," but the best detector in the world won't do you any good if you don't know how to use it.

Several years ago I went to a local beach to search for a friend's wedding ring which she had lost a couple of weeks before.  I had a $150 Bounty Hunter because it was all I could afford, but I had used it a lot and was familiar with it's limitations.  There were 2 other guys there working the beach with White detectors.  Long story short, I found the ring in an area that both had worked before with obviously better detectors.

My advice would to be to research, buy the best that you can afford and LEARN your machine.  You can find good stuff with any quality detector if you know what you are doing.   Wink

I have an old white coin shooter and Tesoro also a Fisher. I find all three reliable. Just depends on what you are going after. The Tesoro is becoming my favorite. It is really easy to use, I found a One Cent from 1843 I think it was.
But I am far from an expert.
