  can you add some voltage to a bfo pcb to the coil , say it,s rated for 9 volts and you have a 12 aa batt pack will it safely do 12 volts ?  Idea

hard to say. have to see the schematic and the rating on the electrolytic capacitors, etc. Also you will consume more power from the circuit, parts could heat up due to the increase and smoke them. I suggest you simply make a voltage regulator circuit. First you need to know what the circuit draws in the way of current. This should say on the specs. You then design around that. here is one that will do about 1.5 amps using the to-3 style.

or you can buy a regulator from 12 to 9 volt. Be sure it can handle what you need, amperage wise or else you have solved nothing.

You will Find the BFO is will not punch better due to Voltage at the Search coil.

It is a function of Inductance not Receiving or Penetration of signal.   Wise
