The test with setting at Rx1 just a slight needle movement. Rx10 little more slight movement and Rx1K full sweep.

What you are looking for is full sweep at any range. That indicates continuity. Mark the wire pairs that show continuity or write down their colors and we will go from there. We need to know which wire is showing continuity with which other wire.

In the old TV series, Star Trek, there were some miracles we watched that actually came to be. We have doors that open when we walk up to them, computers that speak to us and listen, advances in medicine and food that cooks in minutes instead of hours. If only that transporter technology would hurry along. Then I could be there to help you in person. Much faster that way.

Beam me over, Scotty!

I can see the reason behind sending attachments. I just thought would given view of the wires which are the plug side of the board. GRAY wire on the left and the BLACK wire on the right. Continuity between GRAY & BLACK

I'm sorry I let this go so long but I am currently several hundred messages behind due to other concerns in my life. Back on duty though.

I still need more clarification to help you. Let me ask some questions which you can answer by observation.

1. Does your coil wire have a connector where it enters into your detector or is it hard wired?

2. You originally stated that there were two wires not connected. Does that mean that 3 wires are not connected?

3. On your board, you should see some integrated circuits. See if you can find one and read a part number on it. A part number like LM358 or 74HC00 would help me to find your circuit ground. Can you read any of the part numbers?

I don't like not being able to troubleshoot from thousands of miles away. Your answers will help get to the bottom of this. More questions later, I promise.

Thank you for your help. I asked my brother-in-law to look at this. He determined the source of each wire. I then set off to solder these wires. Then determined a broken wire on board. Re soldered, back in business. My first find was a crumbled piece of aluminum 5" depth.  Grin

That's good news. Thanks for the update.

I still remember my first piece of foil. Oh, the memories!

You do believe me, right?
