I got sidetracked, sorry for the late reply.
The connector is a 5 pin (midi) type not the same as the standard 5 pin you see on my BH detector.
This is a 15 khz machine, so worth taking another look at it. Im just looking to make it work, and test to see if I can use it for fine or small gold.
The outer coil rings high and some shielding was missing. I will have to check circuit board for anything burnt. But Im sure a little shielding and fixing the connector should work.
I was considering a (pull behind) coil for this unit, for meteorite hunting. But winding a coil is easy, making it work is another thing.
Thanks for the good info.

Hi Hector, we posted at the same time.
The connector that goes into the control box from the coil was one problem. I got careless and didnt write down what wire went to which pin. The connector was all twisted inside and probably the problem anyway. The pin figuration would help greatly.
I have only had the control box open once. I was considering soldering the wires directly to circuit board. But wanted to add a second homemade coil later. So I havent done that yet. I had to open up coil for color code on wires, and to ring it out properly.
The coil was easily opened by gently grinding the sides off the coil itself. Inside I noticed the outer coil (foil wrapped) was missing shielding. I was getting a .7 on ohms/continuity. So need to get that down to zero, get the moisture out, and seal up the coil again.
Since the detector would briefly try to work, just finding which wire goes where, and adding shielding to the coil should work.
I did way too much to this machine. But felt better about taking the time to open it up and make sure I had checked it out. It is a low end machine, but would make a nice machine practice machine as it has the TR modes and manual ground balance. My current machine is turn on and go.
The wire from the little board may have shorts. Im considering replacing that wire from the coil head to the control box.
You mention shielding on the small coil connection under tape. I dont know what to use for shielding. Im used to mylar premade inserts for windings and such.
Give me a few minutes and I wil post pics. Thanks.

Okay here is some pics.

hector I didnt put a pic of the end of the coil wire, its just five wires. Think I should replace the wire from the coil to the control box too.
