For me I have relegated myself to prepunched board, unless it's for RF circuits over 1 MHz. Gosh I remember when I used to punch out holes in a metal chassis to install tube sockets and RF transformers. No computers to design stuff back then, just did it in your head.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Thanks, Homefire. Been looking for that one since I got my new laptop 3 years ago. I had it on my old one and couldn't remember the name of it.

You use your favorite schematic program and generate a netlist. That is the first step towards creating a PC board from a schematic. Then you import that into VeeCad.

Be sure that you use the right footprint for each part. For example, if you used anything other than through hole parts, you might have a problem since fitting SMD parts would be hard. Also, the free version doesn't route for you. That needs to be done manually.

GD, That is what I can't find.  I use  Tinycad to do my drawings.   I can import those parts?

I don't need auto route .   I just need the Parts outline.   I can do this faster on Paper and Graph Paper.  In my Head.

I use this:

Absolutely free and updatable for parts from the RS Components on line catalog. When they get a new part in, they pubish a part update for you. You just use the "live import" feature built in to DesignSpark.

Homefire, there is a bit of a learning curve but be patient and go through the tutorials on their web page. It's a full featured program. The reason they give it away free is because they use RS Component part numbers which generates a shopping list for you after you do a design. They hope you will simply order your parts from them instead of shopping around for them. In truth, they are competitive in pricing so you won't go wrong to just order them and save yourself time. Then they also offer a service to do your boards for a competitive price.

How's that for service?

Or, you can shop and find parts less costly if you wish.

No way mate I got DesignSpark just after it was first released and within minutes I was making a board, Just don't get the latest version, you have to be connected to the net to be able to use it, quite frankly I found that the skin was terrible and I don't want to have to be connected to do my work. I think that they really messed up on this one. By the way thank Homie I was also looking for it  Smiley

@ Dbanner I think that they do have a version for Linux, just go to their site and have a look.
