Go Up Go Down

I did a test  today on the ace 250. I laid the coil on a table upside down and made it level. I then suspended a silver dime from the ceiling and made sure the dime was flat to the coil. I then raise the dime to 7 inches.  At that point i Tested the shield no shield Idea. With the shield connected I swung the dime side to side over the center of the coil. The ace 250 would pick up the dime but had trouble with the id. I then did the same but had the shield disconnected and the results were the exact same. What i did find out is that when i would swing the dime fast it would id better than a slow swing. This sweep speed would be about a 2 seconds swing in the field. Thats really fast but if you were hunting a place that was clean and had deep coins it would be ok. I cant say that it would work in a trashy site do to masking. Just to let you know the dime would id as a nickel or foil at exactly 7 inches with a slow sweep speed but an increased speed would cause it to bounce to 10 cents and then down to 5 cents on the screen.

Now I need  data sheets or a schematic of the ace 250 to go farther with any testing of the electronics or software in the ace 250. If anyone has any info please email me.

Hello again , If I find your email , I will send you a schematic and the link . Please remember do not post the schematic here or we can get chewed out a little bit , if Mr. Garrett has a Fit  Grin. Anyway the technical feedback I have read on Ace-250 is that it is not a very sensitive Metal Detector Design . It is described as a 100% accurate discrimination machine with a range to about 7 inches maximum...........Best Regards.......Eugene52

7 inche maximum detection is untrue ,,I have dug a piece of very small foil at 9 inches and other coins etc doing an air test is fine but objects in ground that have been there for sometime give of a halo  ,,,

Hello , it is a very good metal detector for its $200 price , but the ace-250 can never be modified to perform as good the top-of the line Garrett GTI-2500. But some mods. can make a big difference in whether you find a target or not !!..............Eugene52

Hi everyone, I went out detecting with my Ace 250 today and tested the shielded and unshielded depths by making and breaking the link to the shield.
I have to say that I could find no difference with or without the shielding only a slight change of ID as 'rbholt80' found with the air test.

regards Mike.

Hello , I am sure the ACE 250 can be improoved a little by increasing the current through the TX side of the IB search coil . After the 2 year warranty is up ,  take it apart and do some circuit changes , modifications/experiments with the TX [oscillator circuit] , and or improoving the standard search-coil . The shielding mod experiment was from a Russian website . I am sure they can do something much better than what they posted !!!.......If I here of a "Working and successfull modification" , I will post it .

 Great................ Wise...........Eugene52

Hi Eugene, I?m sure you?re right that increasing the TX current will be a good way to improve the depth of field.
Whenever I?m out detecting with two friends who also have Aces, we always seem to come away with fewer finds than those using other models like Laser/Tesoro etc.
I know it could be said we are not searching correctly, but I don?t think that is the answer in this case.
I just get the impression that the depth is not there in the first place. I?ve got the larger coil for mine, but it?s a trade off, better depth, less sensitivity and accuracy when pinpointing.
Don?t get me wrong I really like my Ace 250, it?s got many great features. Just seems to lack power.
Look forward to hearing of any future mods.

All the best Mike.
