Thank you. sounds like the potentiometer selection is better than the switch indeed! and i'll be going to radioshack to get 2 more pots for GB.

Discrepancies in the parts reference. R59=1K. Small 104 cap spots are the red 100nf or .1pf (x2) AKA WIMA 0.1, and the large 104 cap spots arethe white 100nf or .1pf AKA .1J63

here's some pics attached.

So I snipped the leads from all the pieces and then I soldered them all. I accidentally filled some holes I shouldn't have because that's where the pots are going, but I can easily deal with that. I thought I had a soldering pencil but I seem to have misplaced it. So i'm attaching a picture for bragging rights of doing a decent job with a piece of $#!+  Round About that's literally over 15 years old that was used full time for 2/3 of that time. My mom used it for Stained Glass Windows and when she was gonna throw it away many years ago, being the pack rat I am, thought it would come in handy. But look at the marvelous melted rubber band holding the handle together! It's a shaky mofo, but it can still get the job done, and it has. On many occasions. One person's trash..

time to pop the ICs back in their slots. Which is something I should point out. NEVER keep a soldering gun on any contact point for too long. just long enough to create a bond. I've burned out pots, and melted capacitors this way. Not this time thankfully, but I have. Also if you look in the pictures above you will see that I tried to bend the resistors in a way to create a gap between the board and the butt of the resistor. I didn't want to take chances so i took out the ICs before soldering the feet of the IC holders into the board.

Nice! Good luck, build the IGSL-TGSL first so we can collaborate mistakes! haha. I still need to order the coil housing and everything else.

Will be making the electronics housing out of copper shielded aluminum sheeting. or something. I have 2 large sheets of copper shielding. I still need a lot of parts.

I will be going over the boards and schematics to compare the parts and build both at the same time. As well as go over the posts at geotech. I have a Tesoro coil on my Silver umax I can use as well as a musketeer coil being shipped to me but, it the 8".

For bending your wires on the parts go to Michaels craft store and pick up a pair of round beading pliers. They will cost about $7.00 or so, just don't buy the very cheapy looking ones. The round jaws will wiggle, back and forth, a bit of slop to them. Or better yet go looking for a beading store near you and buy a better pair.

I may build one into an underwater case. I found an actual U/W camera housing that it may fit into.

I see that Tr3 trimmer that solders onto the board is the trimmer for the TX oscillator sine wave. I think this is correct from what the schematic shows, that and what I read in the geotech forum. But what are the 2 ground balance trimmers? R37/R57 or Tr1/Tr2?

What the heck does GEB mean? "Ground (some word that starts with an E) Balance"? If so then R37/57 are the trimmers i won't use and place pots on the outside just like homefire said eariler.

SvenS, I actually used my fingernails.. haha. I do have needle nose pliers, but I figured fingernails would be more nimble and quicker than awkward extra appendages. But I have long fingernails(longer than they should be) because I'm lazy and zut them back when I can no longer play guitar. HAHA.

I already have my board soldered. now i'm shopping for a case, I'm leaning towards ABS and then copper shielded against electrical peripheral hum. I'm leaning towards NOT making my own coild and buying the 10" or smaller DD widescan coil from the tesoro website. I figure 88 bucks is about the price i'd pay for coil wire, the housing, the epoxy, the shielding tape, the time.. etc. They also have a lower half pole that attaches to the coils as well. Within 200 bucks I'll have a 700+ buck Sabre-esque seeking beast. totally worth it.

Trying to figure out what pots to put outside the box and which ones to keep as on-board trimmers..

this isn't helping at all. he has wires from one pot going to two different spots on the board. wtf? must be the Musketeer board. Either that or this image is intentionally trying to confuse me.  Shocked

GEB, Ground Exclusion Balance was a Whites term for ground balance.

Oh, that makes sense! lol. Thanks, I was thinking that, but as I'm experienced with making assumptions that later bite me in the arse I didn't eant to solder pots to the wrong spot  Cheesy
