Has anyone else built the PI Detector that Gary Lecomte of Canada has designed.  I build my first one 2 years ago.  I lost it in a fire.  I'm building another one and hope it works as well.

It is a very good detector and easy to build.

I bought the kit from him and the coils also

I am just starting to gather info on how to build a PI detector for buried meteorites.

Is the one you built on the "Chemelec" site?

Did you purchase all the kit parts (PCB, components, etc) and do the assembly yourself?

How about the coil? Wind it yourself?

Thanks for any info/insights you can provide!

Hello Slick,

for your purpose I would recommend building the hammerhead and using it with 1 x 1 m square coil (simple frame built from tubes - very easy construction). The coil you can mount on a cart or just add two ruvver wheel and you can then pull it by hand or run it below your car in the dessert.

Regards,

Christian

Christian,

I have seen that name on a search I did on Google, but it lead to a dead link. Where can I get more info; it sounds like it would be right down my alley!

Thanks,

Slick

Here is the info on the HammerHead.

This is a on going project morphing along the way.

last time I looked into this, Rev C   was the most complete.

No Boards are available at this time for it.

You can burn your own.

Yes I'm building a pair of Gary Lecomte's PI detectors, hoping the wife gets bit by the bug. Last night while soldering a few components onto the board had some copper from the PC board come loose.

When Gary returns from holidays Sept 6/09 I'll be sending the PC boards back, this is the seconed time I have had copper come loose, once while drilling one of his boards.

Does anyone have a properly sized pc overlay for doing a toner mask then etch with hydrochloric acid with a bit of peroxide.

The overlay should be 4.9" x 2.6" I/m having trouble with Gimp in resizing the huge printable overlay Gary has provided from his web site, can someone please resize this file for me.

Or suggest another Linux application besides Gimp that will do the job

When I ordered my kits, I was supposed to get 1 coil, this did not arrive with the parts yesterday afternoon, I'm sure Gary will make it right. He seems to be a very helpful guy.

thanks all.

Hello Gustavus . I ordered some circuit boards from Gary several years ago . I Sent money[cash] through the mail and recieved exactly what I ordered . He is very honest and dependable . If a search coil is not recieved just e-mail or call him . I have never heard of any recent complaints and his Canadian prices on electronic components/circuit boards/search coils are very good !! Just make sure you type everything you want to order on the e-mail you send . He does have a Great Electronic website called "CHEMELEC" . Do not forget he is on vacation till September 7th , Thats what his website says today !!  Shocked
HH........Regards..... Great....Eugene
