If you use a wire of gauge of 0.8mm coil diameter 300mm-320mm with an inductance of 250 to 300 uH (that's about 24 turns) you should be able to detect your 15 x 15 cm object at well over 30 cm more like 45 cm. Also remember that you need to tune the detector with the tree trim pots, do you have an oscilloscope?

Same thing 250 - 300 uH but you will need to use less turns. If you do not have an oscilloscope then I suggest that you download one like this at

it will do what you need it to do.

More inductance will NOT give you more depth, you have to have a precise inductance the design of the detector also for the speed (decay time) , power, frequency, reception (TX is same as RX) of the coil also this is why many fail at making a good detector. You will have to have a very good understanding of the detector that you are building before you can start to design your own coils but go for it, that's how you will learn just be prepared to make a lot of them. Always keep an eye on the FET that it does not get too hot (heat = power consumption = less operating time) or burned FET

I for got to say that you will have to change the damping resistor for your new coils.

thank you xavier .i agree with you that all these factors that you mentioned above have an affect of the sensivity of the detector .  please can you  give me what can i change  to improve my dp?.i use :for r5:680 ohm /1watt.r6:1k.c1:22n. cd 4066.CD14538.lf357.tl082.do you think that i use a good component?.
