I'm brand new, to the site.
Well, brand new, to this whole scene.

I'm looking into purchasing my first metal detector.
Ill be using it in the AZ desert.

Yeah get a good waterproof detector for hunting the beaches.  LOL

Welcome from Texas Try the search fracture top right of page and look for beginner detectors etc. Research the top names Garrett, Fisher, Whites, Tesoro and Bounty Hunters.

Hello AzBeginner.   Welcome from the west part of the valley of the sun.   Homefire and seldom have both given you some good suggestions.  If you're planning on hunting relics, coins, and jewelry, you'll do pretty well with a Garrett Ace 250 or 350, or a Fisher F-4, or any of the equivalents from the other major manufacturers like Tesoro (definitely check them out), Whites, Teknetics, etc.   On the other hand, if you're going to be looking for gold nuggets, you'll probably want to look at more expensive machines (unless you're only interested in the rare large nugget or have exceptionally good ears and skills).

Hey welcome-GO FOR IT, just pick up a used Garrett 250, it'll do ya good and won't tear a hole in the moneybag, they doo good job, dependably Detecting

Check out a fisher f5....its a very good starter...easy to learn and great ground balance.
