Yes, you can call the True Temper a plug cutting tool....especially with the serrated edge.  Of course, out in the deserts of Arizona there isn't much call for true plug cutting--just caliche-hacking, but it does well in both uses.  Every one I know that has used one whether cutting plugs east of the Mississippi or chopping through the hard soil out here has liked them.   I modified mine by duct taping a magnet to the top of the handle for grabbing iron (and or meteorites).

That should do the trick.  It is made by the same people as the other.  Biggest difference outside of the color and possibly the length is the other has a fork in the end that comes in handy for tough roots, but this should do very well in most situations.

This one has a fork too. The flash made it go away.

I already took a file to it and made it quite and evil sharp V and sharpened the heck outta the straight Edge.

Good hunting!  And welcome from Virginia, although Sarasota is like a second home for me!   Siesta Key Beach, Lido and South Lido Beach should be good places to hunt.

HELLO FROM DAYTONA BEACH! THE SAND BEACHES AROUND SARASOTA ARE SOFTER THAN IN DAYTONA SO A PLASTIC SIFTER SHOULD WORK VERY WELL. I HAVE BEEN USING ONE FOR YEARS IN DAYTONA AND I PAID NINE BUCKS FOR IT OFF E-BAY. WITH THIS YOU DON'T EVEN NEED A PIN POINTER ON THE BEACH BUT IN OTHER SOIL YOU WILL NEED A "DIGGER' AND A PIN POINTER. IF VOLUME IS A PROBLEM USE YOUR HEAD PHONES AND TURN THE VOLUME DOWN. THE "250" DOES MUCH BETTER IN DRY SAND.
GOOD LUCK!
