Go Up Go Down

Hello to everyone,
Very nice site, and great forum!

I am new to metal detecting, but am very interested in searching for World War 2 relics. I have never done this before and havent yet got a metal detector, however i have a keen interest in history and esp. World war 2.
I am interested in starting this hobby, and was wondering if there is anyone here either in the UK or Europe that wouldnt mind me joining them on future seaches in Europe. I understand it can be dangerous with left over ammunition, which is why i would like to go with an expert(at first).
Perhaps someone here could recommend where i should start with this hooby, what sort of metal detector would be good, and what clubs i can join, preferably here in the UK.
I hope you can help, and dont mind the newbie questions!

Thank you all

Lewis Reynolds

Hi Lewis,
Welcome to THunting.
Nice to see a newbie from the UK, do have a good look around the forum you'll spot the relic hunters fairly easily. What county are you in?
There are local clubs all over so shouldn't be a problem for you, many of the guys in this country have tectin buddies or are even looking for buddies.
As you'll notice by my sign off, my buddie is my wife Eileen and we work together always. We only detect on beaches or coastal paths.

It's also worth checking detector sales sites to see the different makes and models available also the prices can vary considerably from dealer to dealer.
Once you've got a short list then check out field tests on the web to help with your decision. What suits one doesn't suit another so take your time.

Best wishes for a machine that suits you and Happy hunting.

Ian & Eileen

Hello, I have a large collection of dug Military badges and buttons ( over 250 so far) They date 1770s to WW2.

I also have some gernade bits..a Civil War arty shell I found and had to disarm it to bring it back to Canada.
I ID Many Military types of Ordnance forum in the UK on another forum where I am listed as a "Finds Advisor"  I ID'd the remains of a Number 68 anti tank type 4 Grenade yesterday on that site.

Feel free to post photos of any of your Military items and I will try to help out.'

Thanks Dean, no find as of yet, just wanting to know how to start!

Can anyone recommend a detector for a beginner, that would be suitable for military relics, bearing in mind i dont want to spend the earth buying one!

Thanks

LEwis
