Borneo - Do's and Dont's for your average Pirate Treasure dreamer.

Hi all, I have just landed a job in Borneo and will be here in Sabah for the next 3 months.  Thought I would buy a metal detector and have a scrounge about on the beaches and in the jungle.  I did some general research and came up with some posts on Borneo that seemed to range from the "I'm completely loopy - best to lock me up" posters - with claims of Pirate Treasure and wealth beyond imagination, through to the "..be VERY careful in Borneo..." posters alluding to some serious ramifications for anyone who dares to seek treasures in this place, and not much in between.  I guess I am looking for any one with facts or knowledge or ideas specific to Borneo (beyond the threat of what I can only imagine to be the ghosts of Pirate warlords and mythical dragons) - especially in relation to the legalities of fossicking with a metal detector in Borneo and even some good potential sites....  Anyway, thanks in advance for any thoughts offered!  Cheers.

Sure, What brings you here jbquek ?  First post, fast response, grey promise of friends with treasure, offer to team up with the blind leading the blind - perhaps all of those warnings have some basis...are you perhaps the ghost of a pirate warlord?

Welcome from Arizona....hot, dry, and far from Borneo.   I would expect there are some interesting opportunities in Borneo.  I would also suspect that one would need to plan well and exercise a great deal of caution in the pursuit of them.

! would imagine Borneo would be the "Last Frontier" as far as metal detecting goes , probably untouched , but it is a volitile dangerous place for the unwary proceed with caution . Make sure you have permission to detect areas , and get that in writing !! .Good luck . cheers Mick
