Hello members,

I've been a prospector, both electronic and by using a hydraulic sluice in central Victoria for many years (about 30 I think) and love the hobby and a profitable pastime.  I live in the so called 'golden triangle' of Victoria and literally can walk from my house into an ironbark forest which has been and still is a goldfield, or gold producing area.  Although this area, like much of the 'triangle' has seen most of its history devoted to deep lead mining, nowadays with the old timers long gone, it's the detectorists who I see camping in the forest.

I've also collected a few Roman coins, all of which I've had to buy overseas (from Germany mostly) but this an expensive business - and in this I envy you British members who're able to detect for these coins actually where they were dropped or lost.

I'm now retired following a 28 yr career with the Australian Army and divide my time (put rather more simply than it actually happens) between roaming around in the bush with my Minelab 2200D - or in the comfort of my home - writing about finds and the history of the goldfields and the unique characters who roamed the bush in those gold rush days of the 19th century for a few magazines.

Happy to make your acquaintance, fellas.

Forester

Hello forester01

 Welcome

It seems you have had a fairly eventful life I wish you luck in your retirement. It is a wonderful part of the world you are in. Detectors heaven.

I think you find some amazing characters when researching the history of the gold fields.

G'day again,

to the blokes (not forgetting Sue) who welcomed me aboard - thanks.  I'll do my best to contribute wisely.  I look forward to reading of detecting and prospecting activities around the world (it's an adventure each time we head bush hey?).

Cheers

Forester
