thanks looking right now in the whites family of detectors, needing one that can do beaches, creeks, watger, and dry land as well, but don't want to spend a fortune right now either and lots of them seems pretty pricey..lol.gregg

Some of the units may seem a little on the pricey side but then again sometimes you get what you pay for.

I think it's best to check around for a good used machine..many dealers have them and you can save a bundle.

Absolutely.  Maybe i should have worded that differently earlier.  Sometimes you get what you pay for as in don't buy a "cheap" detector just because it is the cheapest unit available as far as retail price.  Some new cheaper ones out there do seem to operate very well while I have heard that others do not.  Used from a dealer wouldn't be a bad route at all to go.

Remember most newer machines have a learning curve...some like the minelabs are tough to learn...when you deciede on a machine ask if he knows anyone close by that can help you get used to it..it will save time if you hook up with a hunting buddy that knows the machine you are using...check out local hnting clubs..I am sure there are some near you and it will he you break into the hobby.
