Welcome to THunting ocalasix...Smiley...I personally like Tesoro machines but They all are good the key is to learn your machine well and then go find some treasure...lol.  I wish it was that easy, but it is alot of fun

Welcome to the forum ocalasix.  Really great site here...very many helpful and friendly people.  I've heard that the ace 250 wasn't too bad but never used one myself so you would know better than I about that one.    There are many good "general or all around" detectors on the market today but ultimately in the end it boils down to your own personal preferences and the types of features you would like to have in a unit.  On the forum we have a "SPECIFIC BRANDS" category that may offer you some insight to the other units that may fit the bill for you and in the marketplace of the forum you may be able to find a good used unit like what you are looking for from one of our members.  Hopefully you get much input to your question of suggestions.

Best of luck and welcome aboard!

Hello Gregg!

Thanks for joining us at THunting.com. I hope you will enjoy your visits to our website.

When hunting both at the beach and in the woods you will want to look out for a machine that is both deepseeking (woods) and not affected to much by mineralisation (beach).

There are three machines that pop up in my mind:

- Fisher Quicksilver
- Whites XLT
- Tesoro Lobo Supertraq

All of the above three have good depths and can hande mineralized soil.

I would go for the Tesoro Lobo. It is very easy to operate has maybe the best ground filter out of the three and comes with a lifetime warranty.

Just my two cents though.

Good luck hunting and please keep it posted about your finds.

Best wishes,

Christian

all,

thanks for the fast replies folks....i also got an email from a friend of mine i did woods, dirt, etc MD'ing, and he does mainly if not only water now...he uses a Whites MXT , he fopund over 40 gold rings and 22 silver rings, and a 1816 gold coin , so makes me wonder if i should mainly do creeks, rivers, beaches..lol..but i love history and would also love doing land, but pinpointing was always my problem, and digging large holes...never destroyed anything but took some time..i also had a guy where i lived 30 mins. from here he used to sell whites, fisher, and other detectors, can't remember site..but anyways i could go on forever i will let you guys know which one i get when i decide and get up a little more money

I can understand the pin poting problem. It can one drive crazy if the holes keep on getting wider and wider without being able to pick up the target. Best stay away from the Quicksilver then and either go for the Whites or Tesoro. The MXT is a fantastic machine but will require some time to learn. If you have the possibility best ask your friend if he can give you some instructions on it and maybe borrow it from him for a weekend. This way you can give it a try without having to buy it first.

Let us know which machine you will end up with.

admin,

thanks i used to like the screen read out of the 250, but heard they were tricky on the beach, and not sure if it is submersible in a few feet of water, i won't be doing diving detecting since i don't swim..lol...not sure if i want one with screen(prefer), but one with all the knobs would be one that would take time to learn...friend lives aways down the interstate now as i have moved so, plus work schedules , gonna be talking to him soon, as we haven't chatted in a while..but thanks for the input gonnas do some homework on it today before i go to work..gregg
