Go Up Go Down

This is my first submission to this form, so let me introduced myself. My name is Terry. I first formed the notion that it might be possible to become filthy rich my by filling buckets with gold nuggets with the aid of a metal detector in 1979. The following year I was all set to start. I had bought a caravan, a detector, picks and shovels, and all the other equipment I would need, and had also quit my job so that I could give the task of finding treasure my full attention. I was living in Brunswick, (where I still live) and moved my caravan to Castlemaine.

Long story short ? I didn?t find much gold. My detector liked the sound of mineralised soil better than nuggets. It wasn?t long before I became convinced that dredging the creeks was the way to go. I build two dredges. A costly and time consuming endeavour. And after many labour intensive days of in cold, leach infected waters didn?t have enough gold to boast about.

I guess that since I?m talking about 1979 and 1980 you must have formed the opinion that I?m an oldie. Well that?s right. I?m 63. And to prove the saying, ?there?s no fool, like an old fool,? I?m thinking seriously about giving it another shot.

Welcome aboard Terry!
I'll be 62 this Thursday so don't slow down or i"ll catch you.
I've been at this hobby for neigh on 38 years. I've taken a break every now and then, but I keep coming back.
Just started back after a 2 year break for lower back problems. Most recently have back surgery in February, then a motorcycle wreck in March, then surgery last friday on both of my feet. I hope back out there swinging my detector in a couple of weeks.

Jack from SE Virginia

Thank you all for your kind welcome. I guess I should elaborate on my location. Brunswick is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Australia. Castlemaine is situated about 100 miles north/west in the heart of the nugget capital of the world. I may be wrong, but I like to think it is.
Didn?t do me much good. I blame the lousily detector I had at the time. Probable unfairly, but I take relief from my disappointment by doing that. Now I?m reading up on pi detectors. Sounds like they are much better than the crap I had before. I have a background in electronics and I?m hoping to find details here, or on other sites, that will enable me to build a good machine.

Thanks Ridge Runner, interesting site. The have a lot of detectors that look good. But as I said I?m hoping to be able to build my own. There is some information about one on this site ? submitted by Kotsansher that seems interesting. But all the vital details are hidden from me, until I become a full member. I need to make about another 20 submissions before I can see them. This seems like a funny way to do things, but I guess I have no choice. So please excuse me if I prattle on a bit.
