We don't do much of that around here.   I see the odd gold panner in the North Sask. River now and then, but I am not sure the rules on gold panning in the city.   There may be some in my area, but most of the gold (and diamonds) are further north from where I live and I live in the north Central part of Alberta just outside Edmonton.

Thanks for the welcome big chief . I really like the site. Lots of international action which is good for idea exchange.
Maybe I can do some pics very soon with some of the signs on a project I am working on these days. Its interesting . This particular one shows a sign for two different hide spots. Guerilla cache 1946-49.

Within the next few days hopefully.

You know the saying "When in Rome". Thats the way you have to do it here. Its the only way. But it grows on you after a while.lol

In the sixties, there were ancient ruins everywhere .There were tourist shops in Athens selling pieces of our cultural heritage to tourists.
This was probably the official beginning of the illegal artifacts trade.

There were and still are today, a lot of serious ancient Greek coin collectors around the world .
Each new king minted his own coinage with his image. So I think the serious collectors look to complete their sets, of the different kings and that is what is valuable as far as ancient coinage. A set in very fine condition.

I've learned a quite a bit  about it but it does not really interest me so much.

I was over there in the 80's for three years.

Man O Man I had to hide my detectors .

They would have thrown you in the Clink just for having one back then.

Yeah, I wasnt into it then but Ive heard stories. They still go nuts when they see them. Ive had people call the police when I was at the beach on a couple of occasions so now I just go during  the off hours after dusk. Its nice and peaceful. And I keep a few  unclean euro coins in the car if I ever get stopped and they see it in the car.
And all the documentation for the bureau of antiquities with me.
What they dont want to see with the detectors is picks and shovels. Then they know you're up to no good. A sand scoop helps throw the hounds off the scent too. lol

Funny part was when you got in country the Customs folks would inspect every Item you owned and document them.

They knew I had them but Never said a word.

By God you had better have everything on the list when they checked you out on the way out or you paid some SERIOUSE Fines on it.

I even had to keep things like broken lamps and radios to show on the way out.
