Go Up Go Down

Hello all,
Well I am new here on the forum, but have been metal detecting for over 25 years. I started detecting looking for nails in logs that my neighbor and I saw at our saw mill.  Of course that was when I was younger and dumber.  LOL.  I think my first detector was a Whites 6000D.

Since those early days, I have detected all over the USA and several Cruise sites, Nassau, Antigua and so on.

I have several detectors.  My newest detector is a Garrett Infinium which I plan on using for water detecting and Relic hunting in Virginia, (Civil War sites)

My best find is a flint lock pistol, made in Belgium between 1780 and 1820, it is solid brass and I found it here in Ohio where I live.  Of course I have found many great coins, one of them, I found in 2009, it was a 1838 O Seated dime. I found it while detecting under our town sidewalks that the town was replacing.  The coin is 20 years older than our town.

Best Regards for better detecting,
Keep the coil to the Soil,
Ringfinder

P.S.
I am including pictures of my 1838 O Seated dime and a friend of mine who also found the same coin, last year and we both belong to the same club. He found his in the spring and I found mine in the fall.  I am including a picture of all my finds that were found under the sidewalk replacement. In the picture you will also see two Civil War Tokens and several Silver coins and many Wheat pennies. I also found a thimble with our towns name on it.

Hiya Ringfinder and welcome to the forum!

I got my first detector in 1979 but really didn't use it too much due to running around, bars, women, fishing, etc..

Moved to Michigan in 1986 and got started again and went out occasionally. Now I hit it whenever I get the chance and kick myself for not having stuck with it all the those years. Still finding some nice old coins and jewelry, but it would've been a lot easier in the 70's and 80's. Now I'm trying to make up for lost time.  Crazy

 Mike

I hear ya Mike, just think of all the silver that could have been found back in the '70's.  I think my biggest year on silver was in 2006 when I found over 300 silver coins, not to mention over 4,000 clad coins and I was using my trusty ACE 250 to find all of that.

Thanks for your reply,
Ringfinder
Thanks for the reply Dan, I sold my Whites 6000D to a lady who hunted only drive in movies.  She had, like 4 of them.  Now that is some hard digging.

HH, Ringfinder

Hi,there,I am A newest member of this forum. I have this relics, with map on it.My grandfather gave it to me.It was made of bronze but it shines like a gold..The relic seems enchantings.Whenever, I browse it at night,i think something attached on it:Like a history of a world war 2.i held it on my hands then a scene splashed my sight. An events that really took me so well.Their was long tunnel horizontally, with a box underneath covered with wood vertically.I was amazed so I thought further.I saw a soldier wearing a brown uniform, holding a long gun with a knife attached to its end.The soldier hold a young girl, kick and stab it on its back then put it in the tunnel. I saw a white stones that surrounds the place, with water flowing inside the tunnel...I don't know what was that premonition...it was like bringing me to a scariest place.

Now,I am very interested to be the part of this club because I want to uncover what lies beneath that premonition.

Wow, where should I start.  Good places to hunt are all around you. If you live in the country like I do, the best thing I can tell you is go to your local library and look at the old plat maps of your county and all the townships in your county, I'm talking about the ones from the early years of your county. Where I live, mine are around 1860's.  Yours may be much earlier or even later.  Look for one room school houses, church's, springs, old roads that are no longer being used, the list goes on and on.

After you find a spot to hunt, find the farmer or owner of the land and see if you can get permission to hunt that site.  While you are at it, write all this information down, the owners name, the site you are hunting and when he gave you permission to hunt the site. Keep it in a folder and carry it with you.

This is just a start, I have 5 counties and all the townships copied and are in a hard cover note book.

Good Luck, hope you find that pot of gold.
HH, Ringfinder

P.S. I am including a picture of a old school house near where I live, this is what I look for when I'm out driving around.
