Hey thanks Auminesweeper - I hail from the UK myself and moved here a few yrs ago. Live in the mountains now and started eye-prospecting and rockhounding when out hiking/ atving - had never seen such diverse ground before. I never get very far before something grabs my eye and I'm rooting around. Going to some places this year only accessible by rope - love being as remote as possible.

I like the sound of the GMT but don't know the mineralisation issues round here - may be forced to get a PI too? Problem would be carrying them in.

Hi BCDIGGER the one thing i for got to mention was because the MXT runs a lower frequency than the GMT, it handles the mineralization better where it changes alot , dont be fooled because the MXT is a multi purpose machine , it is more like the GMT than you realize, it is the GMT with the added bonus of discrimination , it was built on the or as the GMT but with a few changes, and it is strictly three seperate machines in one check out what Steve Herschbach has to say about it ,the article is called WHITES ELECTRONICS IN ALASKA, this is one of the things that help me decide plus there are more than 16 coils for it, also see his gold hall of fame ,plus VLFs will find smaller gold than PIs, and there is more smaller gold than there is larger gold those VLFs will find nuggets up to 3ft +/- so go get stuck in and good luck ,and let me know what you think and how you get on

Appreciate that Auminesweeper - I will look at the MXT. I had looked at AKMinings new reviews - but was focused on the GMT.

When gold prospecting do you always use known site producers or just follow your nose?

I wildcat all the thim.

If it looks right, I hit it.   Never on someone elses claims.

BCDigger,

I used to do pretty good with my original Gold bug.

I love Whites products but the Goldbug always did better than my VSAT?

Have you looked at the Whites TDI?

I'm currently discusted with Minelab (not all their products, just the company) but the old 2200V2 always comes up a winner when your looking at spending around $1300.00 - $1500.00 on a gold detector.Look around,I have seen it as low as $1400.00 new with all the goodies.

If your going for Gold and can't afford the newer Minelab sd units (gpx).
Read EVERYTHING you can on the 2200V2.

Good luck,
JP

Although nearly all prospecters will say get the machine with the 6x10 coil,Steve stated that alot of people are buying the MXTs with
the bigger 12" coil marketed as the MXT 300 and the MXT PRO and having alot of success with it, also it is worth gettin the 6x10
coil if the dollars will strech that far, the 6x10 is a DD and the 12" is the word i can't spell Grin Grin
there is a 4x6 DD which is very very hot on very tiny gold

TIP: the reason i bought the machines with the big coils is , it is more expensive to buy the bigger coil as a separate item than
it is to buy the smaller ones, if you want them and more depth
I know air tests ar'nt worth a light but when the wife was unloading the shopin a can of soup rolled past my coil at 4 feet and it picked it up and that was the size of a coke can.

So if you buy an MXT you'll never go hungry,LOL   Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

sorry about that, good luck BCdigger keep me up to date on you progress

john
