Hello Ken and Aaron, welcome to the best TH'ing board around.  There are lots of small towns with history in Mo. Just look around the old parks, buildings, etc.  I would also look for any civil war sites if you like to look for artifacts.

Thank you. Where is Galveston Island?
Thanks. I've found some small civil war battle sites but haven't had the time to investigate them yet. I did about 3-4 years of research to locate them. One of which is actually on a farm that a friend of mine owns. We will go in the spring and start searching the land. The owner of the property will let me metal detect but I don't want a lot of people to know about it. Not that I want to keep it a secret for myself, I'm more afraid that if word gets out there will be people sneaking onto his land or people constantly bugging him to let them dig there.

Hello Ken and Aaron,

Welcome to the boards.   Seldom lives north of the Texas Riviera  Cheesy..........actually Galveston Island is the bottle neck that keeps hurricanes from wiping Houston, Texas off of the face of the earth.

Yes there are caves allover around my area. The two largest are Meramec Caverns and Onondaga Cave (which is less than a mile from my house) both of which are commercial. But there are litterly thousands of smaller caves in this part of the country. When I was a teenager I explored many of them. I've also found a lot of indian artifacts in the caves. (broken pottery, scrapers, arrowheads and animal bones in old fire pits at the mouth of the caves.

Ken,
The Bitburg part indeed refers to Bitburg, Germany.   It is  the place where I first met my wife----Our dads were both enlisted men stationed at the Air Base there our junior and senior years in High School.   It is also the first place I ever laid my hands on a metal detector.
