Mike,

I know what it is like to be a "Texan In Exile".  I live in Arizona now, but I was born at Ft Sam Houston and went to San Antonio schools from 1st through 9th grade before my dad got sent to Germany.   Then I went back to Texas to go to A&M.  While I was there, I got to be good friends with a guy whose family owned a ranch outside of Paris.  The property backed up to the Red River.
I've still got family and friends in the Panhandle, in the Houston area, and in the San Antonio/Austin area.   In fact my dad recently bought a place outside Llano.  My heart still lives in the Hill Country, so one of these days I'm going to pack up the wife and move back there.  In the meantime, I'll see what kind of treasures I can find out here.

BA

Is it cold in Arizona ? We are gonna pack up some day also- and go some where-where it is not cold. But seems like no matter where one picks, there is something in the weather to contend with. When I was a kid in Waco, its was nothing to see 3 and 4 tornado's in the sky at once, during the season of course. I wont kidd ya though- I do miss Texas.

Well Mike, it depends upon what part of the state you're in, and what you mean by cold.   North of I-40, yeah it gets cold, with overnight lows in the upper teens not uncommon around the Grand Canyon.   In the southern half of the state, including the Phoenix area where I live, cold really isn't a problem.  We get a few nights where the temps get down to the mid to upper 20's, but most days in the winter require nothing more than a jacket or  a sweatshirt (today was around 73 F).......Summer is our horror time of the year, though.  I don't care how you cut it, temperatures over 105 F just aren't comfortable (and weeks where the highs are between 110 and 120 are really common between July and early September).  People from elsewhere try to tell us "at least it's a dry heat", but they don't realize is that our highest temperature correspond with our monsoon.   112 F + 85% or more humidity means you don't got outside unless you absolutely have to.

On the other hand if you can find the right place both the summers and the winters can be great.
