Wise I'm new to prospecting, have only been at it since May. I haven't stepped up to higher priced gadgetry; right now I only pan and sluice for gold. I am looking for somewhere to prospect in northwest Indiana, if anyone can direct me to a good sight or put me in touch with someone who owns property on a river, creek, or stream; I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks Homefire,

I've already researched that site and many others, but I appreciate the tip anyway. I know there are places here that people actively prospect regularly, and I know there's gold there. I'm just trying to find somewhere close to home. I live smack dab in the middle of two Glacial deposits less than 10 miles apart; one is less than a mile from my home. I would love to just jump in the local creeks and have at it, but I don't want any trouble with DNR, local authorities, or property owners; I just want to find GOLD. My wife and I are going to travel the southwest around Christmas time. I would love to find some gold in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada. Any advice, or locations you'd like to share.

Gold is a bit sparse in Texas, But here in New Mexico it can be had.

Any of the creeks in Pinos Altos area producers.

In the Forest you can hand pan within the creeks no problems.

Pinos Altos - where is that in relation to US 40? Is Sluicing allowed or just hand panning? Are permits required, and who issues them?

No Sluicing in the Forest.

No Permits needed for HAND PANNING.

Most of the BLM has been claimed.

You could go to GeoCommunicator to look for a spot but last time I did, it was all sucked up. HA!

No Permits required for Sluice here.

Dredge Yes.

Homefire,

Thanks for the link to Pinos Altos. I'll have to add Pinos Altos to my Schedule. What are the rivers and streams like down there in December?

Depends on the Winter Rains. Most would have enough to pan.

I'm sure the best flows occur sometime around March to May right.
