Circle Wow! What a nice reception! Thank you all.  Clapp I did buy a Bounty Hunter-Fortune Hunter today from Big 5 Sporting goods, Found $1.18 loose change at a local park/lake. I'll fool around with it a while but will upgrade soon I'm sure. Kinda think I need a pin pointer...
Thanks again everyone

Howdy Kevin, welcome from Arizona.    At the rate you're going you're fortune hunter will help pay for the next detector.  Pin pointers are nice, but learning to use the detector to pinpoint the location of the find is an important skill......so until you get a pin pointer just remember that what you learn today will help you tomorrow.

Thanks BA in AZ! I took it back out this evening, I believe you're right, I've been going back & forth, then step 90 degrees, taking a mental note of where center is. Seems to work pretty good.  Great

kevin, auggie is right, I'm new to the hobby and I bought a pro-pointer the first time I couldn't find a dime in black dirt. It's been several months now and I've learned to pinpoint with the detector now and use the pro-pointer less and less although it is great to have a probe for really small items or where you have multiple items in the same hole.  I carry a dinner fork on my belt with the tines bent out and use it to rake through the dirt. it rings when the coin hits it. The fork works 90% of the time and its easier to get out than the pro-pointer. At first I put a golf tee in the ground at the front edge of the coil before I dug. gambol
