Hi all, I am a new user to this site, although I have metal detected for years in the past, I have not done so for ages because of work. I am now retired and would like to take it up again. I have bought a Garrett ace 250, tried it once and found a 1971, 2 pence UK coin after an hour. This has given my inspiration and interest again. I would like to know more about this detector from people who own one, or have used one as it seems pretty good to me.

Hi Grampz, welcome to the forum from Tennessee. I just bought an Ace 250 also, waiting for it to arrive. Heard very good things about it.  Smiley

Howdy, Grampz.   Welcome back to metal detecting and welcome to THunting.com.   The Garrett Ace 250 has definitely earned a good reputation for itself.   Hope to hear of many more finds with it.

Hi Grampz, welcome aboard! I'm sure the 2 pence is the first of many finds you'll be making with that G. Best of luck and hope you report how you're doing. Sue in Kansas

Hi Grampz, and welcome to the forum Smiley
I`ve used my Ace 250 for a year now,and had some fantastic finds..and within that period it`s paid for it`s self (in loose change) ....you have chosen a great machine to rekindle your interest, and we look forward to seeing your finds from the U.K.
Like most things, the Ace 250 has a learning curve that requires time and patience in the field in order to fully understand what the 250`s telling you...that said,It`ll give you hours of fun and excitement.
Regards
Andrew.

Hi from another Uk Ace 250 user

It is a great little machine for the money, I run mine mainly in jewellery mode
You will soon get used to the sounds, and whether its a good target or not, foil, sweet/crisp packets etc tend to jump around on the display
Good targets should give the same signal when sweeping over it in either direction
Practice pinpointing too, saves a lot of retrieval time.  Find a target, use pinpoint, listen for the loudest tone, then release pinpoint move a couple of inches away, then pinpoint again - it narrows your range. work left/right then up/down and at the peak of volume in both directions the target should be just above the inner circle of your coil

Where in the UK are you ?  somewhere with some good history ?

regards
Silverdog

Ok Silverdog. thanks for the tips, and yes it does seem to be hard to get used to. The tip I have already done so far is to tape the coil cable onto the bottom section in a straight line up to the first connection, then wrap it tightly round the remaining sections to the plug (maybe the coil picks it up if it's wrapped round the bottom section?) but not sure, as a retired electrician it could be a field induction pattern of some sorts as wrapping wire round anything will become a coil in it's self of some kind?

I live in Scarborough North Yorkshire Silverdog, I am 68 (retired 3 years) and have a disability with my leg from my back. But they keep telling me to exercise, so here I am. I have looked for medal detecting clubs etc here but can't seem to find anyone? am I the only detectorist in Scarborough? wow I should find loads of stuff then!!!!
