Live in south west part of Australia. I am keen on the older detectors. ( my kids think I am a Dinosaur so may as well get a detector the same) i am hoping to get some information here to narrow down the choices.

Probably gold and maybe relics. I have read the W.A goldfields are highly mineralised. Mainly just want to play a bit.
Thinking of an old White GEB or Garrett VLF. ( whats the difference?)
I am looking for some threads on here about the old analogue detectors

That would depend on How Old.

Both went through some changes over the Years..

How Old are you talking?

If I Remember Right here the GEB ran at like 6KHz.

Early Garretts ran at 15KHz  IMO Better on Gold but some deffer.

Other then there Gold Machine went to 5KHz in the Early 80's!

I know you all have some Funky Iron Laden Grounds there that some of the Best detectors have issues with.

Our Mod named GoldDigger1950 has lived down there and he will chime in .

He likes his older Garretts!   Great

Garrett Deepseeker ADS or a Whites 6DB GEB. Both about 1980 from what I can see. Also looking at a Bounty Hunter RedBaron. On my budget these fit in and I prefer working with older gear.

Should ad that all of these are cheaper than the cheap Chinese junk like the Seben Extreme.

There is a legendary Garrett the model A2B made for Australian conditions back in the 80’s
I personally trying to find one for years in any condition as long as is complete.
It is worth considering one.

If you look at past records, more gold has been found in Australia with the Garrett A2B / Groundhog series detector than any other machine. The A2B was the first detector by Garrett, to be designed for our conditions ( that is what the "A" stands for). This is still currently one of the most popular detectors of the earlier designs. Remember, the largest nugget known as "The Hand of Faith", was found in Victoria, by Kevin Hillier with a Garrett Deepseeker which is an American Detector. There were other American detectors previously available in Australia, but didn't shape up so well. This is why they are no longer sold here."
