My wife got me a Garrett Ace 350 for Christmas.  I'm looking forward to getting out an using it when the weather gets a little warmer.  Messed around in the backyard with it and my first find was a crumpled up beer can [detecting].

Welcome from NM.    Good little machine to start with for sure.    Check out the Beggers section for Ideas to get you rolling.

Welcome from Arizona.

Homefire is right--your wife chose well.   The machine is definitely good enough to give you a really good feel for whether this hobby is for you, but not so expensive and complicated that the machine itself will overwhelm and frustrate you.    With care that machine will be in your arsenal for a long time to come.

While you are waiting for the weather to warm, I'd suggest the following:
1)  Read your manual a couple of times.
2)  Find some good you tube videos on the Garrett Ace 350 and bookmark them for future reference.
3)  Find out if there is a metal detecting club nearby....if so, visit a couple of their meetings.
4)  Start working your way through our Beginners board and any of the other boards that catches your fancy.   Ask questions based on what you read.
5)  Start planning your first outings.

Happy Hunting,

BA

Ace 350 it’s a good machine.
I haven't used one myself but i have seen it in action.
Spent time and learn it. I think is your best Christmas present to date.
