Welcome from NM.      I don't know much about Gold Prospecting down there but I'm sure we have some folks around here that do.

You should Root around in the Prospectors Talk Board and see what you can find until someone shows up.

Just go our your front door to the sidewalk and turn right. Hunt that little vergs strip of grass for as far as it takes for you to get tired. Then go home. Tomorrow, turn left and repeat. Give us a fulll report.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Hello, and Welcome from Utah!
GD was right! You can do your Fossicking just about anywhere (that you get permission to do so). Not sure about public lands out there in Austrailia though.
Good luck in your hunting!
Do you already own a metal detector? If so, what brand/model are you using?

Smiley Hi Spec , up my way we are starting to get the big rains and high humidity ( build-up to the wet season ) , so detecting out bush is difficult due to tall thick grass , need to wait till the dry and the burn offs . Cheers mate , goodluck
