To tell the truth the owner could probably care less as long as you do no damage.

"Would it be immoral to hunt with her permission since she's a renter not the owner?"   It would be much better to contact the owners and ask their permission.

Since you live in an old goldmining area, have you ever tried panning the dirt that winds up in the gutters next to the hills in your area (the closer to hill, the better)?   No guarantees, but such areas have produced color for other people.

I love that you tell people that they've undervalued their items. It seems that many metal detectorists/treasure hunters are really good people. A couple times I've seen an item that's valuable and told the folks running the sale about it, the look on their faces is priceless.

Seldom is right, though, as long as you did no damage and were careful not to get hurt yourself or cause a situation where someone else could get hurt the owner probably would not mind as long as you have your friends permission.   But it would still be best to ask the owner first.  If they ask if you're going to be digging any big holes, tell them you plan on mostly surface hunting and any holes you do dig you'll fill in before you leave for the day.

No I haven't. I really don't know anything about panning, and the streams are usually dry. I'll have to start reading how to pan for gold without water.  Cheesy
Thanks for the idea  Wink

If I'm not replying properly somebody let me know ok? I'm new at this.

Easy way to pan without water is to fill bucket with as much dirt as you can carry to your car and lift into your trunk and then take that home and pan it out in an old wash tub  or an old kids' wading pool.

And you're doing fine at this posting thing, although if we don't get back to the subject of talking about looking for books at estate sales pretty soon, either Seldom or I will need to split this off into its own topic.   (Which wouldn't be such a bad idea anyway....."Ways to Treasure Hunt Without a Detector" )

Most recently my father bestowed upon me a decent size box of old books belonging to several members of my family going back to early 1800's. I love book especially old books even if they smell a little! I stumbled upon some really interesting things: A receipt for a peice of property in Springville, ny sold to my 5th great Grandfather baught for .75 cents in 1830 with batism literature. Bibles some in good shape some not so much! The book of jane for those who are familiar. Found a few tintypes in the original case they came with  the year they were taken. A pictorial atlas of the spanish american war copyright 1898"awesome"! An there were a few other thing like magazine; The New Movie mag oct.1930 with a signature on the cover and a  Life mag from Sept.1929.

Sounds like some cool finds.   Have you had the signature on the New Movie mag checked?

So, this is like the 5th time i have tried to post pics/scans of a couple things and everytime i try there will be something weird that will happen. When I posted the first time I had tried to attach a copy of 1 of the older ones and as soon as I started the lights started to flicker, I heard footsteps like someone started paceing, you could here the floor boards creaking. I started hearing things bang and crash in a couple of the rooms in my house when i got to the room there would be nothing out of place. I think someones trying to get my attention!
