This thread has been all over the place at one time or another. Did Silverdog sell a Chance Kit or the PCB??    Could have sworn I have one somewhere. I lost interest when trying to program the Atmel with a MAC. Serial ports. I Remember you needed a parallel adapter dongle to program the chip. Then there was a mess of software editions that were scattered around.   Anyone have the Chance working to any degree?

Yes!`it's marathon thread. Bought a  a board & programmed chip from silverdog waiting for it to arrive. Hope that when it was flashed the code protect bit is not set therefore with luck get a working code . I do posses a a USB programmer for the PC not a problem in that department. If it works will compare it to the Garrett ATX. If the board works as PI then the performance will be down to the coil design.

The bill of materials specifies Q2 as KP505 this transistor is made in Russia One can buy 25 beasts on flea bay about 10.50 $ US+ 3.50 $ US for shipping. Who wants 25 pieces will find a replacement

subs for KP505 is 2N7000 , BS170 , BSN304
but its pins replacement maybe different - anyway you have to look datasheets.

Yes thankx for that it seems the BNS304 is the closest match. Another one is A733 which is actually SA733.  It appears that ICL7660S, OP37 & MCP3201 don't seem to run of the mill components. Looked on Flea bay prices are very cheap from Chinese suppliers. Bit worried that the could be what is called counterfeits semi's. It looks like the Chinese have taken over what the Taiwanese did 80>90's by buying out of spec devices from US foundries and labeling them as the fully genuine devices. The problem is if the MCP3201 is not a 100% 12 bit A/D  this is critical impact for the detection of small targets
