It is the same in australia, when i was young, my parents often took me looking for treasures. by treasures I mean artifacts discarded by our aboriginal friends as well as rock hounding for gemstones. Then a number of years ago the government decided to give back the country to these people despite the fact that they had no idea of what the word ownership meant. when this happened all of a sudden it became illegal to posses any artifacts, from a simple pirie point to a mill stone or a greenstone axe head. This is despite the fact that these private collections are in fact preserving what would have been a lost link to the history of the country and the peoples who have lived here. It is a crying shame that governments want to stop people from the active preservation of ures which are lost or being lost due to the current western style of civilisation. I believe that they should be actively encourageing it and even offering rewards for historical artifacts. This is the only way the history of these cultures will be properly preserved.

yeah, we have the same problems here in the states now with the government control over artifacts or anything over 100 years old. Plus we have a new president that was voted in to office by who knows how many registered to vote as Mikey Mouse and a big bunch of dead people...You think you have problems SUNSHINE !!

So then that makes even against the law to make a arrow head...I know how to flint nap.thats takeing flint and breaking peaces off to forum a knife, arrow head.are spear head..

So that also means it illeage to have flint rocks...why is this such a big deal to the feds..guess i had better hide all my arrow head then..... Cheesy

well, if you want to put in the time and money you could get around the government restrictions by getting a degree in archeology and becoming an arheologist or by working as a park ranger.....then you'd get to legally "demonstrate" how to knap.
