Learn from other countries like the UK and make sure it does not happen to you.
Guns are just the first step.
In the UK
First they ban hand guns.
Next .... they go after shotguns.. (always been compulsory to have a police issued shotgun certificate and age restricted )
Minimum barrel length 24 inches
First change of law ... maximum number of cartridges a shotgun can hold is 2 .. if you owned a 5 shot for example you either passed it in to the police be destroyed or you paid mega bucks to have converted to a 2 shot which could only be done had by government approved establishments.. in other words .. too bleeding expensive even to consider. ... you could apply to have a firearms license for the 5 shot but they made it clear that nobody would ever be granted one (fire arms license for rifles ... even harder to get)
Next change of Law for shotguns .... everyone with a shotgun certificate now has to declare the make, serial number, gauge and numbers of barrels of every shotgun owned. Every sale or purchase must include the other persons certificate number and the police notified by law of every transaction.
Next .. all shotguns must be secured in steel security cabinet which must secured to a wall... they also want to know what each shotgun is for and why you need to own it ... Police can inspect your security or shotguns whenever they want to. (should be by appointment but usually they just turn up)
Next change of Law .. cartriges etc can only be bought from a registered dealer on production of the shotgun certificate.
Shotgun certificates must be renewed every 5 years and that is also a pain in the butt and costs money every time.
Will it stop with guns you may ask yourself.. well look at the UK to see what they have done over here
Because the UK the Government and police can't control the increasing gun related crime any more they have to blame something else to make it look as if they are combatting crime.
So .. let's tell everyone in the UK the greatest threat to violance and crime is now ....THE KNIFE
Yes.. all we hear now is knife crime, knife crime and knife crime.
There are so many shootings now in the UK that they are not news anymore unless a police officer gets shot and then that obvioulsy hit all TV news channels and papers.
YES .. now the knife .. according to the UK the knife is now the UK biggest threat when combatting crime.
The Knife.. not just dangerous weapon type knives.. all knives ...
Carry any sort of knife, in a public place or carrying a knife in your vehicle on a public highway ....illegal .. hefty fine and the possibility of 5 years jail if caught unless you can prove to a police officer that you have a good and legal reason for having it in your posession.
You can guess what that can develop into. As an example I was challenged by the police when they saw my scuba diving knife when putting my scuba gear into my boat . All they could obviously see was the handle because as everyone knows the blade fits tightly into a thick rubber sheath with securing straps on it. They wanted me to prove I needed it and threatened me with arrest because the law prohibited me carring a knife on my person or in a vehicle in a public place.
Good end to this example though.. my diving buddy turned up and gave them a right ear bashing.. he was a police seargent.. their seargent.
Carry a pocket pen knife in your pocket in the UK without a good legal reason can end you up in jail.
And this my friends started with a simple change of gun law which people accepted because they were fooled into thinking the government and police were looking after their interests.
USA appear to be adopting the sneeky british methods to fool the public into thinking there will be no need to introduce more laws after the first change of law becomes law.. but you can bet your last dollar that the wording used to pass the first law to ban a gun will include wording that will simply open the gate for the next law to sail through. You can bet that wording used to ban assault rifles or similar guns will not be specific enough to prevent them applying the new law to other guns.
The first step is always the hardest to achieve and it becomes easier from then on.
Best of luck in your fight to retain what is presently legally yours and don't let anyone take it away from you.
