Does anybody have first hand knowlege of cases where the BLM or USFS heve been forced to stop gating or in any way closing off public lands either by court order or any other way.  I'm getting more & more pi$$ed of at all the yellow gates I see on hiway 6 between Portland and the coast here in NW Oregon

It may take a class action to stop it. Just like the TSA, under the current administration, nobody dares take umbrage about the intrusive nature of things. I'll leave it at that lest this get moved to political chat.

Here in New Mexico, we have a Mtn rang called the Cooks Range.   Access from the south side was impeded by 2 1/10ths of a mile of private property.

For years the Rancher locked the gate effectively controlling access to most of the south range.

 BLM was forced to Cut a new section of road around the Private property to regain access.

Someone I was talking to about these Gates said they might belong to logging companies but the gates look like the standard over engineered gov. type.  Plus they are over too wide a range to be closing off logging areas.  I've got to get my buns up there and check one of these things out, I'm sure that if they are gov. made there will be markings indicating who they belong to.

What Color are the Gates?

Here All State and Federal Gates are Green.  Never Seen Yellow Gates.

BLM land gates are Green with a Yellow Stripe in the Center.

BLM Lands being Multi Purpose, the Ranchers lock them from Time to time.

You CAN Cut that Lock.  They are NOT legal.

Here we just call the State Police, and they Cut it or tell you too.

 The national parks service use yellow gates here and if it has a government lock on it best leave it be but if it has a master lock or something your to report it. Deer poachers in the Davey Crockett forest will lock gates to keep campers hikers out of an area

OK so I jumped into my pickum-up truck and blitzed up thar and as it would happen the first gate actually had a plaque on it indicating it was private property. The rest of them I ckecked didn't have anything indicating who put the gate there but they have tons of locks on them.
