It's all right. I am not frightened by a movie image of a gun, mate. Seriously.

Don't panic. The real gun is probably 13,000 miles away.

I am obviously on a different page here .But not to worry that’s easy fixed.
And as you said. I am so fare away plus all I have to do is watch more gold panning video clips that the presenter points a gun and fire on me at the end.

Hey guys, to get back to the topic of gold recovery, I came across something years back about sluice boxing for gold on black sand beaches and the recommendation was to use a copper strip/ bar, I think this had to roughed up a bit to help catch the gold.
Anyone know anything about the use of copper in the recovery? Cheers  Cool

I've never even heard of using a sluice box for recovery in black sand. In all the discussions above, the black sand was the concentrate being worked to remove the gold. It's already been through the sluice by that time. Why send it back through again? Nothing to be gained there.

The copper is used in sluices but you paint charged mercury onto it to catch the gold. It acts like a riffle but also like glue. Other than that there is no reason to use copper in a sluice, mostly they are used as slick plates coated with mercury. You can read about this in "Basement Chemistry for the Prospector" just copy and paste it into Google. Ken was a good friend and when he passed, we made sure that his web page was here to stay for all of us. Oh yea, and the pistol  Cheesy Yup we still have guns in America. We even shoot in our houses here for practice as shown. Well actually when I made that movie, it wasn't really a good day. I had a friend pass away and had to liven up the times a bit  Tongue

It's been done for over a hundred years, & with some very good results. I think Homefire was saying you can check it out on you tube. Im sure they must have something on there.

Not at all. He is incorrect. What has been done is to accumulate black sand using a sluice, not separate the gold from the black sand. That requires far different techniques. That's why I asked what you meant.

Homefire mentioned a tube but referred to it incorrectly. He was talking about the Henry Henry Sluice which is not used for separating gold from black sand. Think about this for a minute. The black sand and gold have very density making them very hard to separate. A sluice will not do the job.

Look, mate, if you can't understand what the discussion is about, try asking more questions. Don't jump on a wrong answer just because it sounds good. A sluice is a FIRST stage of gold recovery, not a final stage. A shake table, spiral aggregate sorting wheel or a gold pan are what is needed. Then when you get to a certain point, you might need to use some very harsh chemicals or mercury. Certainly not a sluice or a Henry Henry.
