Go Up Go Down

I built this last summer after seeing something similar. Works good and it was cheap!

Drain tile pipe from home depot, some plywood, a 5 gallon bucket, and a pond pump. I made this one at 4 feet, next one I will make a bit longer probably 6 feet.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Thanks.    Now I've got enough detail to finally make use of the tube I've got coiled up in the garage.   I bought it a few years ago for just this purpose but never found good enough illustrations for me to make a separator that I thought would work right.
I'll give this one a try.

Thanks GoldDigger1950

Sweet! glad it helped BitburgAggie!

Trickiest part is cutting the drain tile in half as it tends to flex. I duct taped a board to the pipe to keep it straight and used a bandsaw to cut it. You could probably build the cradle and use it to hold the pipe as well.

Also I am planning to add a funnel at the top to make loading easier. If you load it too fast the extra water can wash some gold down with the chaff. Also make sure the leg is adjustable so you can change the angle of fall easily. Less angle equals more fine recovery but also more time to seperate.

Flair the funnel, a bit, so the stream spreads.

Yep goldigger thats just what I was thinking too. It's not a big problem but I dont want to shut it off each time I drop in concentrate. A little diffusion should do the trick.

Even a small baffle to spread the flow?

The pump isnt overly strong so the issue comes from dumping in the concentrate. To get everything out of the container you need some extra water and that tends to flush the riffles if the pump is running too. I got a neat little funnel yesterday I am going to adapt to regulate the loading speed.

OK (Zap! Invention Mode!) How about an out-board trough, withe a cell phone vibrator motor (low power and not TOO much vibration,) dump your  fine concentrate in the trough and let it vibrate-feed into the end of the riffles, just ahead of the water. you can control the feed with the vert. angle of the feed trough and the trough opening. (Zap! Converse mode.)

How did I do? This might work with a spiral wheel!

Not bad at all that may be a part of the adaptation.  Clapp

That would let me constrict flow more without clogging. I think I have a pager motor or two lying around in my scrapheap  Smiley That kind of feeder assembly would work pretty universally I would expect. Nice idea goldigger!  Smiley Perhaps I will set it up as a seperate assembly to use on other types too.

I wasn't really thinking about adding vibration to the feed originally, but I was kind of considering adding it to the riffles somehow just to speed up the seperation. A little goes a long way there, and it might actually be as detrimental as helpful.

Still it wont hurt to experiment, got a few months to mess around in the shop now.
