I have renewed my membership in GPAA and will spend some time in NM and Colo. this summer.  I wonder if any of you have been to any of their sites in either state.  The last time I hunted in NM it was so dry most of the sites on public land were closed because of fire danger.  Most of the sites in CO. were for panning or washing operations and I really like top metal detect.  Has anyone had detecting success on GPAA locations?

Go Up Go Down

This last weekend (05/05/2012) went to a claim with a local club here in Albuquerque, NM and it is a very good site.  There were about 50 people on the site this particular weekend and everyone found some GOLD!  There was about 5 of us working an area and with only moving about 4 yards of dirt, we found about $75.00 worth of gold.  A lot of small clinkers and some fine stuff.  The terrain was very steep and all we used was a drywasher and moved a lot of large rocks and only dug down about 6inches in the dirt that was ran through the drywasher.  And then panned the concentrates. Did not use a metal detector club reccommends that you just dig up the dirt and prospect and see what comes out of the ground.  The ground is heavy in Hot Rocks and your metal detector will be going crazy. Maybe worked a total of about 4 hours on the one spot.  Two other people that were working an area just about 25 yards away pulled out some larger nuggets and probably left with about $200 worth of gold if not more and ran their drywasher about the same amount of time. Earlier this past month a nugget over an ounce was found in the same area.  You should try getting ahold of someone in the club of GPANM and get permission to go and be escorted to one of their local claims. Club hotline phone number (505)898-5508.  Good luck.  You will need a 4X4 to get to the claim site.  There are 4 abandoned gold mines on the site and lots of gold to be found.

Under the New requirement to pay for every claim within a claim association I wonder how the GPAA is going to deal with that?

I suppose they will just use Dues payments to pay the lot!

They may be doing away with some holdings ?

Just something to think about.

Well, mate, if your friends would bother to read the material sent to them, they (and you) might not have to "wonder" about what's going on.

Easy.

Nothing has been sent or told about this thing.

If you have something it would be most welcome. Huh?

Then it's a non issue. At least for non members. Or for people who don't need to know.

I'm poking fun at you, Homefire. You have no idea what you are discussing because whatever notion you have doesn't exist in life. There has been discussion on the GPAA forums. There has been information about rumors in the Gold Prospector and the newsletter. Just because you THINK there hasn't been doesn't make it a fact. Just because you THINK there might be an issue, does not make it one.

Homefire, this is not a NEW issue. Been that way since the 1930s. Where did you get the idea that they didn't have to pay for claims? Sometimes, your hysteria puzzles me.

Not what I said there GD.   You have always had to pay the set fee's to maintain your claim.

Now there asking you to pay the Maintenance Fee on All ten associated claims.

This September your going to be seeing a pile of claims being dropped because some will no be able to pay the new fees.

SEC. 430. Section 10101 of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation
 Act of 1993 (30 U.S.C. 28f) is amended-
 (1) in subsection (a)-
 (A) by striking so much as precedes the second sentence
 and inserting the following:
 ''(a) CLAIM MAINTENANCE FEE.-
''(1) LODE MINING CLAIMS, MILL SITES, AND TUNNEL SITES.-
The holder of each unpatented lode mining claim, mill site,
or tunnel site, located pursuant to the mining laws of the
United States on or after August 10, 1993, shall pay to the
Secretary of the Interior, on or before September 1 of each
year, to the extent provided in advance in appropriations Acts,
 a claim maintenance fee of $100 per claim or site, respectively.'';
 and
 (B) by adding at the end the following:
''(2) PLACER MINING CLAIMS.-The holder of each
unpatented placer mining claim located pursuant to the mining
laws of the United States located before, on, or after August
10, 1993, shall pay to the Secretary of the Interior, on or
before September 1 of each year, the claim maintenance fee
described in subsection (a), for each 20 acres of the placer
 claim or portion thereof.''; and
 (2) in subsection (b), by striking the first sentence and
inserting the following: ''The claim main tenance fee under
subsection (a) shall be paid for the year in which the location
is made, at the time the location notice is recorded with the
 Bureau of Land Management.''

Myself I see this as a Good thing.    Now the Paper Hangers ones holding claims thinking they will make some money some day will be letting some ground go open again.

I'm keeping my eyes open on LR2000 for some grounds north of me that I know is Good.

Have you ever held a Claim?

There is a lot more to it then some folks think.

You don't just walk in post your marker and bango got one.

You have to post , post and post more papers paying filing Fee's, Maintenance Fee's currently $140 per 20 acre claim.

Was you could pay the Maintenance Fee for 10 associated claims for the same price.

Now it's full fee for every 20 Acres.

Was you could do your Assessment work on one claim and all was good.

Now you have to prove it for each claim.

Was you could go with a Small Miners Exemption on the assessment fee's.

Now they have tightened up that too.

GPAA is NOT a Small Miner.

Plan of Operations,  EPA Bonds, 401 Permits are more then killing the small miner.

If you move more then one Cubic Yard per year, your not a hobby any more.
