I have searched around the boards a little bit but I'm struggling to find anyone that has posted some decent plans for a homemade Hammer or Impact Mill.  I have a bunch of Ore that needs to be crushed up and processed.  I really don't want to have to buy one.

Any thoughts or ideas on the subject would be appreciated as well.

Matt

My main question for all those engineers out there is with the drive shaft.  If I have a large piece of pipe  maybe 14" wide inside measurement by 24" long.  How far from the interior wall do I want to keep the hammers? Do I need to stagger the length of the hammers?   Do I need strike plates if I'm using a thicker walled steel pipe?

Hi Matt, I haven't made one, but I've examined quite a few stamp mills at old mining camps.  None of the tolerances were very exact.  They all seem to work on the same basic principle......dropping a heavy weight from a height inside and enclosed space until the ore inside is broken up into small enough pieces to pass out of the enclosed space.

I'll look around and see if I can find better answers to the type of crusher you are trying to make just in case one of our higher volume processors doesn't come back with an answer.
