If you're looking for GOLD, go to the Lynx Creek withdrawal area (

More convenient (ie. better roads and some restrooms) is Fain Park (

Prescott should be nice this time of year as it is around 4500 feet if I remember right.  Down below in the flat desert is hot now.

Had a friend that had to go to the VA hospital in December two years ago.  Driving his big Dodge one ton dually was so nerve racking because of ice on the roads, that he said he would never do it again.  So the roads are pretty scary then.

For people used to cold, ice, and snow, the biggest danger driving in Prescott will be the Arizonians.   Fortunately, even in the "high" country, true winter storms tend to be relatively rare.

I've tried the detector at Fain Park but never found anything. Rumor has it that this area is salted though and isn't a great spot because of that. I recommend going during the week if possible.

And as for weather, it's cold, rainy and windy this week but that's not normal. Christmas will be cold but usually clear. Freezing at night but in the 50s during the day. It won't be bad.
