I see no reason for you to get all worked up. If anything, what those ex-miners said essentially backs up what you and GD have been saying...it's not economically viable to directly go after gold in pyrites.

I don't think he's getting worked up, mate, but he is making a valid point. Lots of things can be found with pyrites but most prospectors will simply move on if they find it. The odds are against finding gold with pyrites. But it has happened.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Cypress Mines was making money shipping Pyrites down from Silver city to Deming and Processing it.

They had  a hole up by P.A. and CHalcoPyrites it was.

EPA shut them down.

The Processing site is just 2 miles from my house.

It was classed as a Supper Fund Site and involved NO CEMICALS other then Fire Roasting and Halide Leaching.

All they did was Cover up the Tailings, and the works are still there.

If they was still in Operation, They would be making a killing with the price of gold today.

Of course it's a very valid point. I'm not as experienced as you guys in prospecting, but I know enough to move on to other areas if I find iron pyrite. And yes, people have found gold in pyrites before, I saw it happen about 4 weeks ago 2 miles from my house. They processed 12 sacks (approx 360kg) of iron pyrite-riddled dirt and got a button of gold less than 6mm across for their pains. Net result: Loss.

I'm still waiting the fire assay results on my lump of Chalcopyrite. Hopefully there'll be enough of the noble metal in it to make hobby processing worthwhile. If not, on to the next site!

Limonite is new to me. Time to do a bit more research!

Well i've learned from this topic that if i find pyrite don't be disappointed if i don't find too much gold in these areas, but to slow down and look harder just incase i miss some thing and that there is a chance be it large or small, but if nothing else i'll get a chance to run my machines through their paces as well as chill out and forget the worries it's called Quality time Is'nt that what we all enjoy

if you don't find gold in black sand why then have whites shown drawings in their manuals showing you how to follow black sand, and why has my Whites GMT got a meter to follow black sand with the input from Jimmy Sierra, AS i've never used it in the black sand areas, so i'm at you guys mercy as to what, why & wherefore, Is this like the gold in pyrite or no gold in pyrite as in you might find it there you might not

My Goldbug manual says follow the black sand.  I dunno.  I've never got to do that yet.

The Gold Bug operates at 19khz.  Here's what Kellyco says: " More than a Hot Gold Machine, the little Gold Bug will make adjustments a snap with many user intuitive features. When you're not in the Gold fields simply change modes and your ready for coin shooting and even relic hunting. You can not find a deeper, easier to use light weight gold detector today for finding gold nuggets and don't worry the little Gold Bug will find the bigger nuggets too."
Sooooo, doesn't that make it a general purpose machine?  I guess not.  I now have a general purpose machine (Bounty Hunter) that will find gold, and a gold machine that will find coins.  What will they think of next?  Thankfully, they both find aluminum.

I think that machine is sold as a multi-purpose machine over here with a heck of alot of success it's deadly on celtic gold coins and thin section roman and on thin hammerd coins, the celtic gold coins are only about 1/4" across and the gold has a lot of copper in it.
