I am post this here because many people ask about if the Whites MXT can be used for Prospecting, The first thing people should know is that the MXT was designed by Prospectors for Prospectors and one of the Key People behind this machine is none other than Jimmy "Sierra" Normandie of which we owe a debt because not only has it found more Gold throughout the US than any other machine on the market, The MXT has gone on to reach Iconic status since it's launch 16 years ago.

Unlike the rest of the Gold baring Countries, Australia is rather unique it that the most of the ground has been for the best part undisturbed which from a detecting point of view can render all but the best detectors useless including the highly revered Minelab GP/GPX series, And it is due to the local conditions being so extreme that has lead Minelab to produce machines that can handle all but the most severe conditions, So a few years back it became a surprize to me to learn that and Old favourite of coin and relic hunters alike could hold it's own in such conditions where many other fall by the way side, I would also like to point out that the topic of coils often comes in to discussion and most people choose the 4x6 shooter coil because the Buzz words "DD" has become almost like a crutch to lean on in order to make up for lack of knowledge about their machine or a lack in prospecting skills, I admit some places are like a Blacksmiths workshop and a small DD can work wonders but in relation to the little 5.3 (6") concentric Coil the little 4x6 DD is going to cost the user about 4" in depth compared to the 5.3,

Anyway here is a little story about the Whites MXT and it's Coils being used in some of the most hostile Dirt on the Planet,,,, Enjoy.

Very interesting. The MXT has the feel of an older analog machine. None of that program this and program that where you have to spend half the day in the menus!!!

Yeah although they came out back in 2000 they have an analog  sound and feel yet they are digital, And they will work on the 4 corners of the Globe. With the coils I have I got the perfect setup now.

The original Goldmaster were already out but while they were getting the MXT to play the game they had enough Tech gained from the MXT that when they added some of the features to the GMT it set the world on fire and The GMT has all the features a man could need and with the right coil it will just about see Gold dust.

Yeah I hate detectors with push pads because you can only work within those pre sets so if a target falls between those pre sets then your stuffed where as the MXT and the GMT are 100% Variable.  Great

 I've used the MXT for years, prospecting and coin/jewelry hunting, and found the 6x10" DD to be the *best* for me; couldn't get rid of the stock 9.5" coil fast enough. The mini-shooter DD lacked depth and ground coverage, whilst the stock coil would overload due to mineralisation. I recently sold my MXT Pro and replaced it with an MX Sport, since I'm doing a lot more water hunting. It would have been Ideal if White's would have just stuck an MXT into a waterproof case but the MXS will do in a pinch. While lacking the control granularity of the MXT's knobs, it has a number of other useful features, like reject volume and notch. I'm really loving that reject volume and like to notch out the last target segment to eliminate iron 'wraparound'.

The MX-Sport is a Good Machine but due to the design it does not lend it's self to using larger coils, Whites have done very well with the MX-Sport and they have 3 or 4 Coils made for it already.

 What precludes using larger coils on the MXS.. save weight? About the only real benefit I see to using a larger coil on a VLF detector, in really bad ground, is for coverage. More than a few inches down (where I hunt) and target ID becomes so degraded as to be useless, shifting too far towards iron and becoming increasingly jumpy, that better results (and depth) can be had by switching to my TDI. Even with scewing the the GB setting, in order to change where targets will sound off (lo tone or hi tone), the depth is considerably more with the TDI and ID characteristics remain at full depth, save for changing in amplitude.
