I am new to this site and have read through a lot of the posts on here. Great stuff!!
I live in the Twin Falls area and have recently ventured together with my brother to find gold in Idaho. I have been told there is gold near where I am at and have done some digging in Featherville at the dredge tailings. (still pretty good color there). Has anyone ever ventured down to Southern Idaho and checked out the area? It would be great to be able to find someone around here to learn from, or to hook up with someone around Boise.
let me know if anyone has any info or would be willing to take on a couple of newbys to show em the ropes.

I have been looking into a few places in So. Idaho and No. Nevada..   Seems to still be great locations and wide open country...

We have a good collection of places.

If you find any more it would be cool to share public spots that can be played on.

homefire----

I have looked thru almost every site i can find on Idaho. Some give you a general location or places that have had mining operations before. but none tell you where the recreational digger can go.
It is all hit and miss.  I have talked with some local miners and have some good leads. (going to check them soon, will keep posted). I am in the works to join the GPAA and the local club chapter here.
Few people know of some of the closer areas to Twin Falls that can still produce (with good effort). I am looking to possibly start something to show all the recreational non claim holding miners areas that they can hit. It will take awhile to set up a site with maps but it would be a good project.
Just need to get out and find some good areas and talk with some more people.

Sgt Benson,
You might also try going into your local Forest Service offices, both state and federal.  They can point out to you where exactly you can do recreational gold hunting and digging and where you can't.  Also check with other gov't. land management agencies.  Most of the staff in those facilities I have talked to, locally, are more than willing to help me out when I've checked with them.  Good luck!  Detecting  Wise
And welcome to the forum from the Blue Mountains of northeastern Oregon!  Welcome

Hey guys!  Where's the miner or gold panner smiley, anyway?!!

I was working some areas up near Silver City last season because it's close to home, but haven't hardly touched pan to water this year. I have heard of people having some luck nugget shooting the dry creek beds. There are probably some good deposits in some inhospitable places no one has bothered with if you have a little sense about working in the desert.

I'm still more fond of central Idaho but just don't have the time to get up there right now.

Another tought about the gov't. agencies:  A lot of people and TH'ers have the impression that the forest services have been taken over completely by rabid environmentalists who want to shut the public off of public land.  Although that is true in a large degree I have found most of the local staffs are regular people who want to have the same privileges we do, and don't see it as their private reserve.  They want to go hunting, camping, fishing, gold prospecting, panning and digging just like we do.  And they are willing to help you out.
Don't be hesitant to go in to them for information.  You will know right away if they will help you out when you make a pleasant and reasonable inquiry.

they have little programs that run with Google Earth and show you all the open and closed claims in your state.  They are $14.95 per state and he says that he trys to keep them up to date.  I have the one for Oregon and it shows me that I live in a gold starved area, I'm in the NW part of the state but it shows that gold predominates in a diagonal band from SW to NE so I have to do a little travel'n to get to it.

PS I don't work for or get any benefit from Gold Maps Online.
