If I'm asking something that is taboo to the pro prospectors please tell me.  I would love to be able to find experinced prospectors to work with and show me the ropes, I'm looking into doing this as a hobby, and I thought this might be a good start.

Is this something that prospectors would be into?  Is there anyone here that would be open to the idea?  I'm good company and willing to work hard. Thanx again for the help.
Matt

Matt, there are some good Propecting clubs in the US and they have their own claims and they all go
away for the weekends and have a real good time together, why not give them a try,
Homefire might be able to point you in the right direction and some of the other guys too.

Hope this helps

AU

Hey Matt

Yea AU's advice is good join the clubs and get to know the old timers. Most hobby and weekend prospectors are great guys and willing to help new folks.

In addition to the advice you have already gotten, join the GPAA and get their magazine and their Mining Guide every year. It lists sites where you can go and even meet others at the sites since they are club owned and monitored. Members only, don't you know.

At $67.50, it's a bargain. I'm a life member.

Okay...  So I have looked into a couple of local groups here as well as the GPAA.  I guess the claims that the groups have are just as good as the next?   One of the groups have a big excursion planed on there claims in Idaho, that sounds like a good opportunity.

Do the GPAA claims get over worked?

No. All of them are huge in land area. One of the requirements.

So I join the GPAA or one of the local groups pay my dues then I'm free to work the claim right?  To what scale can I or are people working these claims?   Are people out there with heavy equipment or is it mostly gold pans, sluice boxes and metal detectors?

Get ya self an MXT or a GMT or the GMZ or the Gold Bug II they are about the best, then you have the Garrett Scorpion
but the last dont have meters, the Fisher F75 but they do suffer from EMI,
all of these machines will find stuff that you will have to pan, HH
