Just wondering if you folks have your own favorite Treasure writer you enjoy talking about? Could be a new guy or even an older, deceased person. Cool Personally, my treasure hunting hero, without a doubt for many, many reasons, is none other than Dean Miller, better known as Karl Von Mueller. I have a couple of his books and a pile of clippings from old treasure mags that he wrote for. My books are pretty dog-eared and copiously underlined all over the place. This man could arouse my hunting spirit like no other. He turned me on to searching for old silver and coppers at home, through his Coinshooters Manual and I've unrolled a fairly nice little load of silver because of him over the last 2 decades.

How 'bout it boys? Tell us who your favorite Treasure writer is and a little blurb about why you feel that way... Wink

Keep sweepin'

Hello Larry,

that is an interesting Question! Unfortunately there are not many authors who write more than one or at best a couple books on lost treasue.

I agree that von Mueller is one of the classic writers and also remains one of my favourite one.

There is also a German author by the name of Reinhold Ostler who wrote a couple of excellent books but unfortunately they never got translated into English.

Your posting just reminded me that it's been a long time since I had rad a good book on treasure for the last time. I think I will have to browse through my library and do that on the weekend  Smiley

Best wishes,

Christian

I think lost treasure Magazines are pretty popular If I'm thinking right.  I can't really think of my favorite writer right now though.

I've enjoyed J Frank Dobie books. Coronado's Children, written in 1930, recounts the tales and legends of the souls who searched for buried treasure in the Southwest. Apache Gold and Yaqui Silver is a classic of Southwestern legend and lore, exploring the mysterious and alluring sagas of lost mines and high adventures. Sue

I don't know if I really have a favorite treasure writer. The closest person that might qualify would be Zane Grey- the prolific author of Westerns. Believe it or not-a lot of treasures were uncovered through the reading and research of his books.

Hi Folks,

Thanx for the replies so far. Chris, it's too bad Reinhold didn't get printed in English, our loss. Glad I stirred up yer need for a fix too! Grin

Wow, dr.dtector, I can barely believe that you don't read treasure stories. Shocked I think you owe it to yourself to read at least a copy of the Treasure Hunters Manual #6 or #7 by Karl Von Mueller.  Cool The thing I like most about Karl is the way he writes his stuff to always teach you. He wasn't into writing to make money, instead his goal was to try and teach us less experienced TH'ers how to do that. This guy shows you so many ways to better your treasure hunting life. He is not known as a "yarn spinner" but instead as a very factual writer. He covers and covers extreamly well, every facet of TH'ing and more, with you in mind, always.

Hi Sue, Coronado's Children was mentioned in some of Karl's writings, but unfortunately, I haven't had any success locating Dobie's well acclaimed book. Thanx for the input SweetS! Cool

O.K. That's a good start. For all the rest of you TH'ers out there, don't be shy folks please, this could prove to be a fairly interesting topic because it let's us into your individual preference file, so to speak, so we can see who has been inspirational in your TH'ing life. Smiley

Karl Von Mueller was a good friend and TH'ing buddy of Charles Garrett.  Garrett mentions him often in some of his books.  Robert Marx isn't bad either to name a couple.

I probably have everything Von Mueler wrote(including his Spartan dredge plans). He was very good. But...my absolute favorites are Ruby El Hult for documented and referenced info that you can follow up on, and Dick Stout for the best dectecting info with where and why answers.....This, even though Stout is 'White's' sponsored.
