Go Up Go Down

Hi All,
I am pretty new to this site but see there is a lot of good reading here. I am trying to find out what the use was for this item. I was able to find that it had something to do with the Fowler house Circa 1860's ( later it became the Hotel Mitchell) in Port Jervis, NY. The number on it was the street address. I do not know anything about the Holland House horseshoe that is attached to it. It appears to be made of brass. The larger horseshoe is approx. 4" tall and 3 1/2" wide and has 3 feet on the underside of it. The smaller one is approx. 2 1/2" by 2".  It was dug up about 2 miles from where the Fowler House was located. The old Erie RR line and the D&H canal ran through the area it was found. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Jim

Were there bathhouses in the area. Look like tags we find around here that were used as claim tickets

No bath houses that I am aware of. There was a livery stable behind the Fowler House. The larger one has 3 feet on the bottom and kind of reminds me of a trivit to put hot things on. I thought it may be that the Fowler House may have had different names for the rooms and Holland House was one of the rooms in it. The local historical society has no clue as to what it was used for but would like me to donate it to them. I would consider loaning it to them for display but don't want to part with it. I consider it to be my best find for the area.
