Hi All,
I am pretty new to this site but see there is a lot of good reading here. I am trying to find out what the use was for this item. I was able to find that it had something to do with the Fowler house Circa 1860's ( later it became the Hotel Mitchell) in Port Jervis, NY. The number on it was the street address. I do not know anything about the Holland House horseshoe that is attached to it. It appears to be made of brass. The larger horseshoe is approx. 4" tall and 3 1/2" wide and has 3 feet on the underside of it. The smaller one is approx. 2 1/2" by 2". It was dug up about 2 miles from where the Fowler House was located. The old Erie RR line and the D&H canal ran through the area it was found. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Jim
