Taddog,

 well i started to hunt totlots and what fun it is, have been to 2 so far this week and found 2 rings 1 gold and 1 silver, also 1 silver dolphin from probably a charm bracelet. several coins and 2 small hot wheels cars. that brings my ring total this month to 5. i have also been working  a ball park and have come up with 314 coins 3 rings, 1 broach, 1 earing,. winter is about to arrive here in the northwest so the digging season is about over. might have to go to the seattle area to hunt through the winter.

I bet you can hunt wood chip tot lots in the winter.

They create heat inside. The frozen crust insulates the inside.

If you have a cordless drill with a 3/8 inch chuck, get a
garden auger for about $10.

I call it the Cordless Arkie Barkie,

{alt}

May be crazy, but I will try anything, when I get hard up,
and it works great.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

ya know ,the arkie barkie is a good idea when their is no snow, but for us in spokane washington, tons of the stuff. last winter we had 5 feet of snow in 36 hours, and stayed for months, with more on top of it.  we even get temps to -20 below.  I think i would be better to fill my garage with about 12" of dirt and have some one bury coins and junk for me for intertainment.  Although the coast areas can produce some mighty fine beach hunting, but it is a 350 mile treck for me.  Darn winter anyway, think i will go back to florida.
