S'ok my Friend.

The thieves (Odyssey Marine) have to return the stolen goods. Exactly as MANY of us have been saying over the years.  Smiley

"guberment" must be baby talk for Government.  Smiley

Hello Ro

I agree that Odyssey Marine badly under estimated Spain and handled the project badly. Especially if they recovered the coins from Spanish territorial waters?

And in regards to the coins deemed to be a cultural heritage belonging to Spain?

Frankly taking the moral high ground I think it is an insult to humanity considering Spains genocide of 400 years in the Americas. If anything it should belong to the thousands of victims of an illegal occupation and forced exploitation of millions of people enforced into slave labor.

Spain has never paid any restitution for 400 hundred years of plundering South America?

And here we have Spain has acting like a thief complaining that their ill gotten gains have been stolen?

What is the difference between the Nazi occupation and plunder of Europe and Spains occupation and plunder of South America? One had concentration camps the other had the inquisition. The results were pretty much the same. And please note I do acknowledge other past colonial powers was not much better.

If Germany claimed cultural heritage to stolen goods from the Nazi era. There would be an public out cry.

If a Spain claimed Cultural Heritage to stolen goods from their colonial era. Then its okay?

Hypocrisy at it best.

Who is the real thief here?

Personally I of would preferred to see a better managed common sence out come between all the parties.

Hardluck

Are you sure that you have your facts correct?  Undecided

Such a terrible misinterpretation of history.

Hello Ro

Lets have a stimulating conversation about Spains colonial conduct in the new world or any other colonial power for that matter.

But its very late for me. So talk to you soon.

Hardluck.

There was a big thing about this about 8 months ago, But why are they getting involved in treasure hunting and the fact they did a deal over a painting, there was a stink at the time and Odessy did all the right things too, whats found in international waters belongs to the finder as the law states.

Odessy Marine did not steal anything they found the treasure and the world wide international Law
applies to everyone, I wonder if they would make them hand it over if Russia or China found it,
Or lets try something closer to home CUBA,

Oh and i thought we were here to discuss treasure and the law???

I for the life of me, have no idea why you would think of Odyssey Marine as being thieves, for there own discovery and finds?   No no!

Sounds like the same old familiar lame stereotyping, used against Treasure Hunters to me!

Just to be perfectly clear, Nobody should have claim to anything in our waters or outside the limits other than the finder or salver's first IMO.
Abandonment laws should come into play, then no country or company has claim to anything found other than the finder in my opinion and in many others opinions including Maratime Attorneys, especially if any statute of limitations has passed for insurance claims.

I'm into Marine Archeology and antiquities, and just because somethings lost and sunken doesn't mean it should be in some museum or that any state or country should be able to dictate to the finder of said artifacts.

I'm a serious Historian student of Spanish main shipwrecks in North & south America, I use scientific method and processes of Archeology, but I'm also a firm believer that the salver holds primary ownership rights of his finds as a Treasure Hunter!

As far as I'm concerned, Spain or "Rome's butchers" at the time, shouldn't have claims to any items found from recorded Sunken/buried history regarding treasure mined from South or the N. America.

Cheers,
Jim

Fact!

Some damn Corrupt Judge here in the USA, was paid off returning the Pirate Booty to the Thieves.

Fact!

Spain is nothing more then a Bunch of Vultures!

Fact!

Spain is calling it there Heritage while it really belongs to Peru and other South American Countries it was Robbed From.

Fact!

Spain has Proven they Were Pirates and Still are!

Fact!  I have NO RESPECT for Spain.

Fact!   When they Fold under the UE, I hope it all is used to Pay back there Debits!

Fact!   I'm NOT sorry for telling the Truth as I see it.
